How are you and how’s your day/night going? Mine’s alright and even if it wasn’t, our little meet up here always seems to brighten my day.
So guess what I have for you today? My low down on a lovely place in Slough I discovered some weeks back. Ok, let me be entirely honest, it’s not like I chanced upon it. It was a Girl’s Lunch Out and our own eat-out expert, Ellen, was showing us one of her favourite places in Slough. And boy, was this place good!!!
It was my first visit to Slough and Ellen couldn’t have chosen a more memorable place for us to have lunch. Lemme not over do it; as you can see, this place left me excited. There’s a broad smile on my face as I type. I will get straight to the descriptions and why I loved Roosters Piri Piri.

Roosters Piri Piri in Slough is a typical Fast Food joint. Place your order at the counter and then pick a seat. Unlifke many other Fast Food places, a waiter/waitress will bring you your meal if you’re eating in. However, if it’s a takeaway, you’d wait not far from the counter till your order is ready.
The menu is at the counter and the staff who took our order was particularly helpful and patient, explaining what we did not readily get, like the names of their sauces or how spicy a particular item was.
I loved the large clear window in front, it brought a lot of light into the room and made it feel spacious. And yes, it made for good aimless chatter from random observations from the street. Lol
It’s generally a calm place but gets super busy around lunch time. Super busy! But luckily most of the traffic was at the counter and not really at the seats. I guess most people were grabbing lunch and heading back to work or some other place they could squeeze during their lunch break. ๐ค๐คท๐พ♀️๐
Now I’m ready for my most favourite section in our eat out posts ๐ taste and texture...
Since we did not have eeehhhhhverything at Roosters, I’ll talk about this. So coming from a West African country that has very sweet and flavourful sweet potatoes, I must confess I was not keen on eating UK’s sweet potato fries. Why? Because the sweet potatoes here pale in comparison to the ones back in Ghana... almost tasting watery and super bland. And I never got round to understanding how to cook it to get texture that is plausibly compensating to me. I really love potatoes, but not the sweet potatoes in these parts.
So I was in for a big surprise when I finally tasted the sweet potato fries. My goodness! It was delicious! It was sweet, it was flavourful, it was yummy! I’m really glad Birago and Ellen decided to convince me to have a taste of the sweet potato fries. It actually ended up becoming our latest addiction because we went hunting for it in Iceland after a lunch. I probably should have post dedicated to sweet potato fries and the interesting stories surrounding it including how we cook it, why we went looking for it and the ingredients that make the typically blander sweet potatoes taste like heaven!
And in case you missed it, this was my super highlight of my memorable Roosters Piri Piri experience. The discovery of UK’s sweet potato fries... lol
Now unto the other foods, the butterfly chicken was nice. It was super strong in some spice I am not used to and quite salty. In hindsight, I think that spicy taste may have been mustard. But seriously, don’t take my word at all, it’s a very wild guess. Plus, the menu at the counter will describe its ingredients to you if you get there. Lol
Now the mashed potato was dry with a fine crumb texture. It reminded me of mashed yam in Ghana, right before you add it to the rest of your ษtษ ingredients. If you are a fan of dry mash then this is the place to visit. If, however, you are a fan of creamy mash try adding the mayonnaise they serve with your meal to it, Birago seemed to like it and it resembled creamy mash when she did that to the one they brought to our table. I think expecting creamy mash and then tasting dry mash for the first time was a shocker for me, so I didn’t try it after the mayo was added.
Another favourite was the Piri Piri chicken wings. Now Piri Piri is the hottest sauce they have there. And yes, it’s really hot. I love pepper so trust me on this one. Probably the hottest chicken I’ve had in any UK fast food so far, but just to be fair, I have not tried many fast foods just yet. One thing we discovered whilst eating was that adding some ketchup to the chicken is lovely. It converts it into delicious sweet chilli chicken wings immediately. So when you try it, do have it with ketchup and without ketchup and tell us which one you prefer.
The fries were crisp and the meal was just lush. Thanks to Ellen for her wonderful selection and Birago for letting us try the butterfly chicken.
So that’s a wrap on my low down on Roosters Piri Piri at Slough. I hope it convinces you try it if you’re ever in the area, and I hope more than ever, you love it as much as we did!
